Welcome to Term 1 - 2018

Kia ora and welcome to 2018!

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and had loads of great adventures! We sure did!

What an exciting year this is going to be! We are two Year 3/4 classes and it is lovely having some
familiar faces back again this year and to our Year 3s, you are going to love being in Room 7&8!

Miss Vergis
Kia ora from Ruma Whitu! I’m looking forward to sharing this year with all of you. I’ve been at Good
Shepherd for 10 years and this is my 6th year teaching here. I have a cute, little puppy that you will
definitely hear lots about over the year. In my spare time I like to bake, go for walks and I run a
youth group at my church. I love going to the beach and being out in the sunshine. I’m excited to
be working more with Miss O’Neill this year and creating a more collaborative learning space.  I
look forward to meeting you all in person. If you wish to contact me, you are more than welcome
to pop into the classroom or contact me via email : kvergis@goodshepherd.school.nz
Miss O’Neill
Kia ora from Ruma Waru! As most of you know, this will be my second exciting year at Good
Shepherd School. Before teaching here I spent two years teaching in schools in London and
then went on to working as a Camp Counselor in a summer camp in America. I am a huge bookworm,
am overly passionate about coffee, love Harry Potter and growing up was known as ‘bug girl’. I am
very excited to be working alongside Miss Vergis, even more-so than we did last year. I look forward
to meeting you all in person. If you wish to contact me, you are more than welcome to pop into the
classroom or contact me via email : joneill@goodshepherd.school.nz

Room 7&8 are part of the senior school which is the “Connolly Syndicate”. It is a big step up from Year 2
so be prepared for more homework, more opportunities and more fun! We will be working collaboratively
so we will be in and out of each other’s classrooms a lot.

Good Shepherd will be doing a production this year. It will involve the whole school and we would love
lots of parents to be involved behind the scenes. So if you have any hidden talents like sewing, face
painting, etc, please let us know when the time arises. We will be focusing on this in Term One and it
will be performed early Term Two.

This term, the Year 3 and 4s are privileged enough to attend a swimming school in weeks 5 and 6. The
swimming lessons will be catering for the children’s swimming abilities from trained professionals. All
children must participate in this, however, if your child is unable to go swimming, please send a note.
Homework will be given out weekly. It will include reading, writing, maths and spelling and occasionally
Religious Education. Please ensure your child completes their homework and returns it on time. If you
have any questions about this, please feel free to talk, or email us.
There will be important dates coming up during the year and we will try our best to remind you about
them by putting up signs on the classroom window or by speaking to you in person. However, it is still
important that you read the school newsletters and check the updates on the school calendar and app
regularly.
We hope you have a wonderful year!

Happy 2018!
