Week 5

Wow! What a week!

1. Samoan language week
2. The Royal Jelly show
3. Assembly

We have been so busy in room 8 over the past two weeks.

This week we were really lucky to have the Royal Jelly show come to teach us all about the different jobs that bees do.

Can you believe we wouldn't have chocolate without bees?!?!?! SHOCKING!

They also taught us that bees are under threat and that we have to protect them

This week we also celebrated Samoan language week. We had a group come in for a performance. It was brilliant!

We had our assembly today also, where we shared our NZSL song Paradise and our play 'Have you filled a bucket today?'.
We had a great time and were SO impressed by the beautiful Queens birthday weekend cake.

Week three - Cicely, Maverick, Liam

Science week

Week three was science week. On Thursday we made homemade butter. You can do this at home too!

- First you have to fill half of a jar with cream.
-  Next you have to sprinkle some salt in the jar with the cream
-  Then shake it in the jar with the cream and the salt
- Then shake the jar until the cream splits into a solid and a liquid. The solid is the butter and the liquid is buttermilk.
- Tip out and rinse off the buttermilk and you are now left with butter

We found it was a real workout for your arms!
It was even more fun to eat!!

Week 2 - George

Football clinic
On Monday we attended a soccer program at school. The coaches set up a huge blow up field. First we split into four teams and played a game of soccer. On one pitch, the game was 13/nil to non-bibs. On the second pitch the score was 3-2 to red.

After the game, we played shark attack with soccer balls. The sharks made a huge line across the field to try and catch the last two people (Miranda and George).
It was a great experience and I hope we do it again at some point

On Wednesday the opera came to Visit us. The opera was called the 'Elixir of love' and was a funny story based in a fish and chip shop.
We really enjoyed the great story line and amazing singing. The opera had 5 characters but they only had 4 actors so when they asked for an extra actor, we screamed Miss O'Neill's name so loud they chose her to be the minister. We don't think she was very happy with us :)

We had a FANTASTIC week!

Term 2 - Week one. Celia, Liua, Mishael

Life education

In week one we were lucky enough to have Hillary from life education come to talk to us about how our bodies work. Hillary has Sebastian and Aisling stand in front of the wall to have their bodies scanned so that we could look inside at their organs. It was so cool! Harold told us we have to eat lots of healthy food, eat only some food from animals and not too many sweets.

All of the food we eat goes into our mouth where we use our teeth, tongue and saliva to break it up. It goes down your ah, ah, ah, sophagus (oesophagus) and into your tummy where the muscles around the stomach squish and squash the food. From there the food travels into your small intestine. Then it goes to the large intestine, up, across, down, around then plop!

Hillary chose different people in the classroom to choose what colour lights we would use. The green light made us look like aliens!
