Swimming

On February 22nd, Linley from swim safe Auckland came in to teach us how to be safe in and around water. Next week we are going to swimming lessons at Dean Greenwood swim school. We have been having loads of fun in the school pool and can't wait for our lessons.

Maori

We have been looking at greetings in Maori. To ask how someone is we say "Ke te pehea koe?" which means ' how are you? On our wall we have different feelings in Maori. Everyone is able to move their name to how they feel
Wera - Hot
Harikoa - Happy
Pai - Happy
Pouri - Sad
Riri - Angry
Mauiui - Sick
Hiakai- Hungry
Makariri - Cold
Hiamoe - Sleepy

Lenten promises

We have been talking about Lent. We all made our Lenten promises and wrote them on a love heart. We will try our best to keep these for all of Lent and also afterwards

Week three - Lana and Jackson

Chinese new year

2018 is the year of the dog. The year of the dog begins on the 16th of February (today!) The qualities of someone born in the year of the dog are - Loyal- Honest- Friendly - Cautious - Good communicators and responsible
We had a go at making some year of the dog finger puppets. We put a lot of colour onto them, cut them out and glued them together.

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday marks the beginning of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is also known as pancake day. People used to use up all of their 'good' ingredients before the beginning of Lent. We celebrated Shrove Tuesday in Room 8 by making our own pancakes

Week Two - By Aisling and Miranda

              Bucket filling

Everybody carry’s an invisible bucket. It fills when you are happy, it empty’s when you’re sad.  Room 8 has their own buckets - this is how it works: Someone is nice to you they tell Miss O’Neil and miss O’Neil puts a pompom in their bucket to show that they have been a bucket filler. Here is a picture

Waitangi day

Waitangi day is a special day for all New Zealanders. We had a day off on Tuesday to celebrate this special day. The treaty of Waitangi is kept in Wellington. The Maori and British people wanted to make an agreement to share New Zealand. The treaty was translated from English to Maori. The treaty was saved from a fire by a man named George Elliot.
